Shriners History:
 The
Shriners International
(Formerly Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine)
(A.A.O.N.M.S.)
was founded in
New York in 1872. Established as a fraternal organization, in its early years,
the group supported
a variety of worthy causes devoted to the health and well
being of children. In 1920, the Shrine formally established the Shiners
Hospitals for Children as the group's official charity and the
first Shiners Hospital for Children opened in 1922 in Shreveport, LA.
Now 22
Shiners Hospitals for Children in the U.S.,
Canada and Mexico provide the finest orthopedic, burn, spinal
cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate care available for
children at absolutely no charge.
